Season 2: Shine Brightly

Episode 5

Harness: Salespeople and Entrepreneurs

In the second episode on the Salespeople and Entrepreneurs track, I discuss how we can become more conscious leaders in both business and in life.

Here’s what’s covered in this episode:

We are all leaders

People think that to be successful, you need a title, position, and money, but you don’t need any of these things to be a leader. You may not think you’re a leader, but you are. The question is: Where are you leading?

Maximizing your leadership potential

To maximize your potential as a leader, you need to be able to learn and grow, lead by example, take risks, fail fast, and harness the gifts of those around you.

Learn and grow

Are you learning new skills, and are you growing by implementing them and changing your behaviors

Take risks

Are you taking risks? If you’re playing it safe, that’s a problem. You’re not using your gifts, and you’re not leading.

Fail fast

Are you failing? If you’re not taking risks, then of course you won’t fail. Stop playing it safe. Harness your gifts and take action. Lead!

Harness others’ gifts

Are you looking around you for people who have unique gifts that can add to your gifts so you can create something different? To be a good leader, you also have to be a good follower. We have to follow the person who has the hot hand. That is critical to be able to bring the best gifts together and create positive outcomes.

Leaders need support

We’ve already established that you are a leader, so the only question now is: where are you leading to? And where do you want to lead? To be the best leader you can be, you need support. In the same way you have a team at work, you need a team in life. You need people who are going to hold you accountable and have a vision of what you can accomplish.

Takeaway challenge

Reflect on the following quote and be conscious of where you’re inspiring and where you’re leading.
